In the story of David and Goliath, David initially prepared himself to wage a conventional battle with swords against Goliath. Realizing that he could not succeed if he fought by Goliath’s rules, he removed his armor and tossed aside the sword in favor of a slingshot and five smooth stones. The rest, as they say, is history. By changing the rules of warfare, David was able to defeat a stronger opponent. Fast forward about 3000 years. Cloud computing technologies have entered the landscape of enterprise computing, and like David removing his armor and taking up a slingshot, many companies are shedding themselves of the weight of high software and infrastructure costs and deploying advanced SaaS applications that allow them to be more agile, flexible, and mobile. For those companies, cloud computing is allowing them to change the rules in their favor and to their competitive advantage.
